Are your parents always warning you about the do's and dont's of social media? Well here are some tips on how to be safe!
Social Media is an enormous part of everyone’s life today. Social Media can be a positive thing and a negative thing in our everyday lives. Safety is definitely something that scares some parents when their children have social media accounts. It’s crazy to think that you may have over 1000 “followers” on your Instagram account, but you may not know half of them. Your account may be “private” but people can still see your account. You must be careful of who you let follow you on certain social media sites. There may be some bad people that will try to get information about you that you don’t want to share. Also, re-read your post before you share it. Think to your self, ‘What would my Grandmother think if she saw this?’ Think before you post!
Another recommendation other than watching who is following you, are just basic ways to protect your self especially on social media. Whenever you post a picture, there are some pictures that you should never post. When posting a picture or video NEVER give your current location. For example, if you are on vacation in Hawaii, and you want to post a picture of where you are, wait until you get home to post it. If you post a picture of your location, some body could find you, and stalk you. This could potentially get your Identity stolen. Another thing you shouldn’t do it post picture of where you live. Never give out your school and school district. This is very similar to giving your location. Some one can ask for you at your school. This is very scary and very wrong. Also, don’t give out your phone number or address. This can put you in danger! NEVER GIVE OUT PERSONL INFORMATION!!
There are definitely some pictures that you should never post on social media sites, but there are some pictures that are safe to post! Some pictures that you can post without worrying about are getting your nails done. The picture is showing your new nails which is fine but don’t show the location of the nail salon. Another picture you can post is if you get a good grade. It is ok to be proud of your work! Social media is huge part of every one lives today, but you need to be careful of how you use it. Happy networking!
